Six Men Executed for Drug Charges in Karaj

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); January 24, 2023: Six men sentenced to death for drug-related charges, were executed in Karaj Penitentiary on January 18 and 22.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, four men were executed in Karaj Penitentiary on January 22. Their identities have been established as Ahmad Zalitabar, Saman Nabi-Gorousi, Abolfazl Borghaninejad and Omid Karamali who were sentenced to death for drug-related charges by the Revolutionary Court.

Iran Human Rights previously reported the execution of Sabina Esmailzadeh at the prison on the same day for the same charges. This brings the number of people executed that day to five.

HRANA news agency also reported the execution of two men at the prison on January 18. One of their identities has been reported as Sharaf Khan Akbari. The second man’s identity has not been established at the time of writing.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Sharaf Khan Akbari was from Hersin in Kermanshah. He was arrested and sentenced to death for drug charges around five years ago.”

At the time of writing, none of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
