Two Unidentified Men Executed for Murder in Tabriz

According to Rokna, two men were executed in Tabriz Central Prison on January 31. One of the men has only been named as 27-year-old Saeed who was arrested for allegedly committing murder during a fight on 12 February 2021.

The second man who was middle aged, had reportedly killed his cousin. They were both sentenced to qisas(retribution-in-kind) for murder.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
