Milad Jajouyi Khanik and Mohammadali Akhtari Kohlan Executed for Armed Robbery

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); February 14, 2023: Milad Jajouyi Khanik and Mohammadali Akhtari Kohlan were executed for charges of moharebeh (enmity against god) for armed robbery in Urmia Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Urmia Central Prison on February 14. Their identities have been established as Milad Jajouyi Khanik (photo) and Mohammadali Akhtari Kohlan. They were sentenced to death for charges of moharebeh by the Revolutionary Court.

Informed sources told Iran Human Rights: “Milad and Mohammadali were arrested for the armed robbery of a gold shop that led to the death of the shop owner and sentenced to death.”

“They were arrested with another individual named Milad Ghafarzadeh Ghareh Ghashlaghi but his death sentence was commuted to life by the Supreme Court.”

At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Due to their vague definitions, the charges of moharebeh (enmity against god), efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth) and baghy (armed rebellion) are used for a wide range of offences. Additionally, as they are within the Revolutionary Courts’ jurisdiction, there is considerable subjectivity in the judgements made in the cases.

In 2021, at least 13 people were executed on charges of moharebeh, efsad-fil-arz and baghy. In 2020, 15 people were executed on the charges and 9 in 2019.
