Unnamed Man Executed for Murder in Khorramabad

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); March 19, 2023: Official sources have reported the execution of an unnamed man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for the murder of a policeman in Khorramabad Central Prison.

Quoting the Lorestan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor, Mehr news agency has reported the execution of a man in Khorramabad Central Prison (Parsilion) on March 16. The unnamed man was sentenced to qisas for the murder of a policeman in Khorramabad.

According to the report, the prisoner’s charges were “participating in the intentional killing of Pourdehghan through war weaponry and disrupting public order by creating clashes and using a war weapon, carrying and being in possession of war weaponry and ammunition, wielding a weapon to show power, intentional destruction of a police car and participating in a mass clash resulting in intentional bodily harm.”

On 6 and 11 March, eight prisoners were executed for drug-related charges at the prison.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
