Maryam Najar and Hassan Bahmani Executed for Murder in Isfahan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); April 6, 2023: Maryam Najar and Hassan Bahmani who were both sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder in separate cases, were executed in silence in March.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man and a woman were executed in Isfahan Central Prison on March 19. Their identities have been established as Maryam Najar and Hassam Bahmani who were sentenced to qisas for murder in separate cases.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Hassan Bahmani was arrested around four years ago. Maryam Najar was arrested for the murder of her husband around three years ago. They were transferred to Isfahan Central Prison for execution from Najaf Abad Prison.”

Despite more three weeks passing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
