Hanif Khosravi Executed for Murder in Neishabur

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 3, 2023: Hanif Khosravi, a man sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Neishabur Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Neishabur Prison on 3 May. His identity has been established as Hanif Khosravi who was sentenced to qisas for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Hanif Khosravi was arrested for charges of killing someone during a group fight three years ago. The victim’s family were going to forgo execution three months ago but changed their mind and requested his execution.”

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media and officials in Iran.

According to data collected by Iran Human Rights, at least 582 people were executed in 2022. Only 71 (12%) were reported by official sources.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
