An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Hossein Amirabadi (pictured) was known as Hossein Ghoul. He was a physical trainer prior to his arrest.”
“Saeed Saleh wasn’t scheduled to be executed. A month ago, he tried to escape prison by digging a hole in the wall of Hall 36. That’s why they brought his execution forward.”
Iran Human Rights warned of his imminent execution on 1 May.
Three other prisoners were transferred for execution along with the executed men. At the time of writing, there is no information about their fate.
According to data collected by Iran Human Rights, at least 582 people were executed in 2022. Only 71 (12%) were reported by official sources.
Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
