Saeed Saleh wasn’t scheduled to be executed. A month ago, he tried to escape prison by digging a hole in the wall of Hall 36. That’s why they brought his execution forward.”

Iran Human Rights warned of his imminent execution on 1 May.

Three other prisoners were transferred for execution along with the executed men. At the time of writing, there is no information about their fate.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
