Mohammad Saber Payamian Executed for Murder in Kermanshah

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 11, 2023: Mohammad Saber Payamian who was sentenced to qisas(retribution-in-kind) for murder, was executed in Kermanshah Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Kermanshah Central Prison (Dizelabad) on 10 May. His identity has been established as 34-year-old Mohammad Saber Payamian who was sentenced to qisas for murder.

Informed sources told Iran Human Rights that Mohammad was arrested for murder less than two years ago.

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

According to reports gathered by Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO), at least 288 people were executed for murder charges in 2022, 49% of the 582 executions recorded.
