Hossein Javadi Executed for Murder in Maragheh

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); August 19, 2023: Hossein Javadi who was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder, has been executed in Maragheh Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a man was executed in Maragheh Prison on 16 August. His identity has been established as 42-year-old Hossein Javadi who was sentenced to qisas for murder.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Hossein Javadi was transferred from Shabestar Prison to Maragheh Prison for execution. He was a farm hand prior to execution and the murder had been committed at work. Hossein had a disabled child and had a last visit with his wife and daughter on 15 August.”

At the time of writing, his execution has not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
