Kurdish Man, Fardin Jafari in Critical Condition After Being Shot by State Forces

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 16, 2023: Fardin Jafari, a Kurdish man shot by security forces in Saqqez today, is reported to be in a critical condition in hospital.

According to information received by Iran Human Rights, Fardin Jafari, a young Kurdish man from Saqqez, was shot in the head by security forces on the way to Aychi Cemetry where Jina (Mahsa) Amini was laid to rest. He was shot between Aychi Cemetry and a petrol station on Baneh Road and is currently in critical condition in Shafa Hospital.

Mehdi Ramezani, the Kurdistan Deputy Governor for Politics and Security confirmed that state forces shot directly at Fardin Jafari and said: “After entering the prohibited area, this individual was shot and wounded by the agents for breaching the law.”

Today marked a year since the state-murder of Jina (Mahsa) Amini. As well as arresting Jina Amini’s father, Amjad Amini this morning and holding him under house arrest to prevent a ceremony being held for his daughter, security forces have also blocked the main road leading to the cemetery. State forces have been patrolling the road since this morning and preventing all entry. Furthermore, state forces have also opened the Cheragh Veis dam from Saqqez river in order to block the off-road route people were using to access the cemetery.
