2 Unidentified Men Executed for Murder in Karaj

According to Javan Online, two men were executed in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on 27 September. Only named as Ali and Bahram by state media, they were sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder by the Criminal Court.

Ali was convicted for the murder of a conscript soldier while trying to escape prison and the victim's family had requested execution. Bahram was sentenced to death for the murder of the woman he was after through an acid attack 13 years ago.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
