Unnamed Man Executed for Murder in Mashhad

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); October 6, 2023: State media have reported the execution of an unidentified man for murder in Mashhad Central Prison.

According to Etemad Online, a man was executed in Mashhad Central Prison (Vakil Abad) on 1 October. His identity has only been reported as 40-year-old with the initial A. He was accused of murdering a man six years ago and disposing of his body in the sewage. He was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

Etemad Online previously reported the execution of another man at the prison on that day.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
