Unidentified Man Executed in Bandarabbas

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); November 14, 2023: State media have reported the execution of an unidentified man who had spent 17 years on death row for murder in Bandarabbas Central Prison.

According to Hamshahri Online, a man was executed in Bandarabbas Central Prison. The unidentified man was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder by the Criminal Court. The date of his execution has not been specified.

He was accused of killing his friend 17 years ago but he had always denied the allegations. His death sentence had been overturned by the Supreme Court several times, per the report.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, as the plaintiffs, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
