URGENT: Behnood is in danger of imminent execution, convicted of a crime at the age of 17

Iran Human Rights, December 22: A young man identified as Behnood could be facing execution soon, reported the state run Fars news agency today. He is convicted of murdering another boy under a street fight, when he was 17 according to the report. A court in Tehran sentenced him to death and the sentence has been confirmed by the supreme court, and now about to be carried out. This means that he could be executed in the near future.

Iran has ratified the UN’s convention for the children’s right which prohibits capital punishment capital for offences committed by individuals below eighteen years of age, but so far only in 2007 at least 9 child offenders have been executed in Iran.

Four child offenders have been executed since October 2007: Babak Rahimi (17)Hossein Gharabaghloo (16) Mohammadreza Tork (15) Makwan Moloudzadeh (13)
