FIVE PEOPLE HANGED IN IRAN YESTERDAY- 26 EXECUTIONS IN 10 DAYS

Iran Human Rights, September 13: According to the Iranian state media five people were hanged in three different parts of Iran.

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, one man identified as Koosha was hanged publically in Tehran yesterday morning. Koosha was convicted of murdering a fellow student by the name Mahsa in July 2011. The execution was conducted at the site of the murder. Footage of the execution was shown on the Iranian TV.

State run Iranian news agency Fars reported that a prisoner identified as Mostafa Moshafaghian was hanged publically in the city center of Borazjan (province of Bushehr southern Iran).

The prisoner was convicted of murdering four members of a family in January 2011, said the report.

The Fars news agency also reported about execution of three prisoners in the prison of Qom (south of Tehran) yesterday morning September 13. According to the report the three prisoners were identified as "M. M." convicted of 5300 grams of heroin, "A. B." for keeping 4975 grams of crack and "M.D." for trafficking of 8892 grams of crack.

According to the reports from Iran at least 26 people have been executed in that last 10 days in Iran.

Iran Human Rights (IHR) strongly condemns yesterday’s executions that are meant as an instrument to create fear among the people.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said:" Most of the people executed are tried behind the closed doors and are not identified, so we can’t confirm who they are, what they actually have done and whether they have had access to lawyers". He added: "The international community must act urgently in order to stop the ongoing execution wave in Iran".
