IHRNGO Condemns Execution of Pedram Madani for Israel Espionage Charges

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); May 28, 2025: Iranian state media reported that Pedram Madani was executed this morning after being convicted of “espionage for Israel.” He is the third individual to be executed on such charges in 2025.

Iran Human Rights strongly condemns these executions, often carried out based on vague accusations such as mere online contact or minor activities. The organisation calls on the international community to react immediately.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, director of IHRNGO, said: “Pedram Madani was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court without access to a lawyer of his choice, through an unfair and non-transparent process orchestrated by security agencies. The Islamic Republic’s goal in executing Pedram Madani and others who are hanged daily is solely to instill fear within society and to conceal the regime’s widespread corruption and systemic failures.”

Executions in Iran have escalated in recent months. According to IHRNGO, at least 60 people have been executed in the past ten days alone.
Amiry-Moghaddam added: “The international community and the public must respond more forcefully to Iran’s execution crisis. Only by raising the political cost of executions can we slow down the Islamic Republic’s killing machine.”

Earlier today, Mizan News Agency, the judiciary’s official outlet, reported the execution of 41-year-old Pedram Madani. He was accused of “espionage for the intelligence services of the Zionist regime (Mossad),” and sentenced to death on charges of moharebeh (enmity against God) and efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth).

Madani, a father of one, was transferred from Evin Prison to Ghezelhesar Prison on Sunday, May 25, in preparation for execution. Iran Human Rights had earlier issued a warning about the imminent risk of his execution.

He had initially been arrested six years ago on espionage charges. Although his death sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court, a court of equal standing reissued the death sentence upon retrial.

Pedram Madani is the third person executed in Iran this year on charges of “espionage for Israel.”

Keyvan Mohtadi, a political prisoner and Pedram's former cellmate, published this photo of him for the first time.
