One execution and four amputations in the prison of Isfahan (central Iran) today

Iran Human Rights, October 8: One prisoner was executed and four other prisoners were punished with amputation of the limbs in the prison of Isfahan today Saturday October 8.

According to the Iranian news agency ILNA, a 67 years old prisoner (picture), who is identified as "Ahmad" and known as "the old fox" in the Iranian media, was hanged in the central prison of Isfahan this morning. The prisoner was convicted of raping 37 women according to the official Iranian reports.

Quoting Mohammadreza Habibi, the public and revolutionary prosecutor of Isfahan, ILNA reported that along with the execution of the 67 year old man, four other unidentified prisoners who were sentenced to "Hadd" for robbery, were punished according to Sharia law today.

According to Habibi these prisoners were sentenced for many cases of robbery. The report did not give any details about the punishments.

Article 201 of the Iranian Islamic Penal Code says: "The Hadd for theft, for the person’s first offence, is cutting off the four fingers of the right hand leaving the thumb and palm of the hand. The Hadd for the person’s second offence is cutting off the left foot leaving the fingers of the foot to the ankle intact. The Hadd for the third offence is the thief shall be sentenced to prison for life. And, the Hadd for the fourth offence, when the person commits theft in prison, is death by hanging".
