Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); June 25, 2025: Iran state media reported the executions of three Kurdish men named Edris Ali, Azad Shojaei and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul on charges of collaborating with Israel. At least six men have been executed for the charges in the past ten days.
IHRNGO previously published a list of ten people at risk of execution for charges of spying for Israel which included Edris Ali, Azad Shojaei and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul.
IHRNGO Director, Mahmood Amiry Moghaddam said: “The Islamic Republic sentenced Edris Ali, Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul and Azad Shojaei to death without a fair trial and based on confessions obtained under torture, accusing them of espionage. Today, they were hanged in Urmia prison. Edris and Azad were two kolbars (border mules) who were arrested on charges of smuggling alcoholic beverages but were forced to confess to espionage for Israel!"
Meanwhile, Ahmadreza Djalali, a dual-national prisoner sentenced to death for espionage for Israel was transferred from Evin Prison to the Greater Tehran Penitentiary after the attack on Evin Prison, has been transferred to an unknown location. There is an imminent risk that his death sentence will be carried out at any moment.
Referring to the possibility of widespread executions, Amiry-Moghaddam said: "After the ceasefire with Israel, the Islamic Republic needs more repression to cover up military failures, prevent protests, and ensure its continued survival. Executions are the Islamic Republic’s most important tool for instilling societal fear, and in the coming days and weeks, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of prisoners might be at risk of execution. Currently, the attention of the international community, especially European countries that have diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic, should primarily be focused on human rights conditions, particularly the executions in Iran. Increasing political costs can help prevent widespread executions."
According to the judiciary’s Mizan news agency, three Kurdish minorities including an Iraqi national were hanged in Urmia (Darya) Central Prison on 25 June 2025.
