Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); September 5, 2025: A Baluch man named Ebrahim Safari (Mingol) and Mohsen Amiri were executed for murder and drug-related charges respectively, were executed in Yazd Central Prison.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, at least two men were hanged in Yazd Central Prison on 4 September 2025. One of the men was sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder. His identity has been established as 21-year-old Ebrahim Safari (Mingol), a Baluch man from Zahedan who resided in Yazd. The second man who was arrested three years ago and on death row for drug-related offences , has been identified as 34-year-old Mohsen Amiri.
An informed source told IHRNGO: “Ebrahim (photo) was arrested four years ago. His father was also executed for drug-related offences at the prison a few years ago.”
At the time of writing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.
Drug-related executions have continuously risen every year since 2021. According to IHRNGO’s 2024 Annual Report on the Death Penalty, at least 503 people were executed for drug-related charges, of which only under 3% were announced by official sources. 17% of all drug-related executions in 2024 were Baluch minorities while they represent 2-6% of Iran’s population. At least 426 people were executed for drug-related offences in the first eight months of 2025.
