IRAN HUMAN RIGHTS STRONGLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE FATE OF SAEED SEDIGHI AND THE OTHER DEATH ROW PRISONERS- ABSOLUTE LACK OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRISONERS’ WHEREABOUTS

Iran Human Rights, October 14: Families of prisoners who were reportedly not executed yesterday have been left in the dark.

At least 10 prisoners, among them Saeed Sedighi, were transferred from Ghezel Hesar Prison to Evin Prison for execution last week. Their death sentences were scheduled to be carried out on Wednesday October 11 but it was postponed to Saturday October 13. However, the international attention the prisoners received has helped to prevent their deaths for now. Three UN Special Rapporteurs wrote a statement as well.

The death sentences were allegedly not carried out on Saturday. The families were told that the prisoners were transferred back to Ghezel Hesar Prison.

However, when the families contacted Gehzel Hesar, prison officials said the prisoners were not there. The families have also contacted Evin and other nearby prisons. No information has been given to them.

IHR is strongly concerned about the situation of Saeed Sedighi and at least ten other prisoners. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: "We urge the international community to continue their efforts to save these prisoners." He added: "The death sentences can be carried out at any moment. In actuality, there is no solid evidence to indicate these prisoners are still alive."
