The verdict was sent to Saba’s lawyer, Hoosein Taj, on Tuesday, August 27. If upheld by the Court of Appeal, Saba Kord-Afshari should spend the longest term which is 15 years.
Saba Kord Afshari was arrested on June 1, 2019. She was in solitary confinement for 11 days under pressure to accept the allegations of conspiracy in front of a camera. She was denied any access to her lawyer.
Saba was defending women rights, political prisoners rights and minorities rights before her arrest.
In a recent statement, IHR called on the international community to pay attention to the crackdown of the civil society which has been intensified in the past few months.
