Abdolsalam Barahouyi Executed on Drug Charges in Isfahan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); December 12, 2021: Abdolsalam Barahouyi, sentenced to death on drug charges, was executed in Isfahan Central Prison. At least 117 prisoners, including two women, have been executed on drug-related charges in Iranian prisons in 2021 compared to 25 in 2020.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, a Baluch man was executed in Isfahan Central Prison on the morning of December 12. His identity has been established as Abdolsalam Barahouyi who was sentenced to death on drug-related offences.

Iran Human Rights previously reported that he had been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution.

An informed source previously told Iran Human Rights: “Abdolsalam Barahouyi has a small child. He was arrested and sentenced to death for carrying 50 kilograms of drugs.”

According to Iran Human Rights’ Annual Report on the Death Penalty in Iran, at least 25 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2020. However, at least 117 people have so far been executed on the same charge in 2021.

On December 10, Iran Human Rights warned again of the rise in drug-related executions, which is now at a four-year record high and called on the international community for a prompt reaction.
