Three Baluch Men Executed in Zahedan

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO); November 8, 2022: Aziz Narouyi, Shoeib Askani and Eshagh Askani, three Baluch men have been executed in Zahedan Central Prison, raising the number of executions at the prison that day to five people.

According to Hal Vash, a Baluch man was executed in Zahedan Central Prison on November 6. His identity has been reported as Aziz Narouyi from Zahedan who was arrested for drug-related charges two years ago and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

The executions of Nematollah Barahouyi and Amanollah Alizehi, two other Baluch prisoners was previously reported at the prison on that day.

Two more Baluch men were executed at the prison on November 8. Their identities have been established as Shoeib Askani (Rashed Baluch on his birth certificate) and Eshagh Askani who were sentenced to qisas(retribution-in-kind) for the “murder of several military personnel.”

At the time of writing, none of their executions have been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

At least 251 including 6 women and 67 Baluch minorities were executed in the first six months of 2022. This is double the number of executions in the same period in 2021 when 117 people were executed.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.

According to the Judiciary’s Mizan news agency, Shoeib Askani and Eshagh Askani who were executed yesterday, were sentenced to death on charges of “terrorists action and creating insecurity, and shooting and killing four border guard personnel and injuring several more policemen.”
