Shahram Sadeghi, 27th January Protester to be Executed

According to the judiciary’s Mizan News Agency, Shahram Sadeghi, a protester arrested in connection with the protests in Karaj on 8 January, was hanged at an undisclosed location on 16 August 2026. IHRNGO is working to establish in which Alborz province prison the execution took place. He was accused of premeditated vehicle-ramming attack against a group of security officers by deliberately driving a car into them at high speed to cause death or severe harm. The act resulted in injuries to seven officers, leaving one in a coma for three months. Additionally, he was accused of setting fire to his vehicle to destroy evidence, fleeing the scene and attempting to evade justice by hiding in a rehabilitation facility under a false identity. 

He was sentenced to death on charges of “operational action in favour of the Zionist regime, the US and hostile groups under Article 1 of the Law on Intensifying Punishment for Espionage and Cooperation with the Zionist Regime and Hostile Countries Against National Security and Interests."

Shahram was reported to have been arrested on 15 February. The Mizan report states that during questioning, Shahram had claimed he was travelling from Islamshahr (Tehran) to his home in Kordan, Savojbolagh that night and was in “Karaj intending to visit a soup restaurant near Golzar intersection, where his car was stolen.” However, his coerced “confessions” to intentionally running over security forces were aired with news of his arrest on 15 February, prior to the commencement of any legal proceedings.

No independent information is available about Shahram Sadeghi or his case.

IHRNGO has documented the systemic use of torture and the violations of due process and fair trial rights in death penalty cases. On 16 May, the organisation warned that the Islamic Republic's judiciary is actively weaponising state-approved lawyers to facilitate and expedite the execution of arrested protesters. Families of death row prisoners are also routinely silenced through threats and coercion to prevent them from speaking out about their loved ones’ cases.

At least 27 protesters have been executed in connection to the December 2025–January 2026 protests since 19 March, listed here in order of execution: Saleh Mohammadi, Saeed Davodi, Mehdi Ghasemi, Amirhossein Hatami, Mohammad Amin Biglari, Shahin Vahedparast Kolor, Ali Fahim, Amir Ali Mir Jafari, Erfan Kiani, Sasan Azadvar, Ebrahim Dolatabadnejad, Mehdi Rasouli, Mohammadreza Miri, Mohammad Abbasi, Abbas Akbari Feizabadi, Ashkan Maleki, Mehrdad Mohammadinia, Fathollah Avari, Javad Zamani, Abolfazl Saedi, Mohammad Amini Dehaghani, Erfan Esfandiari, Gol Mohammad Mohammadi, Mehdi Khanaki, Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amirhossein Safari Hosseinabadi.

Mehrab Abdollahzadeh and Aref Khoshkar, two “Woman, Life, Freedom” protesters, were also executed during this period.
