Hasti Amiri is a civil and anti-death penalty activist who regularly joined Narges Mohammadi and other activists in protests against executions outside prisons. On 14 March 2022, Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court sentenced Hasti to one year’s imprisonment on a charge of “propaganda against the system”.

She was also sentenced to supplementary punishments, including confiscation of her mobile phone, a ban on membership in political parties and a prohibition on activity on social media for two years. Hasti, who was a student activist at the time, was barred from participating in any student gatherings other than compulsory classes. The acts cited as evidence against her included publishing photographs on 8 March and posting tweets opposing the death penalty. The Tehran Province Court of Appeal later upheld the sentence.

In August 2022, while on the verge of defending her university thesis, Hasti was arrested at her home and transferred to Evin Prison to serve the one-year sentence. She was released six months later. One month after her release, in March 2023, following her participation in protests against mass poisoning of school children, she and 35 other students were barred from entering Allameh Tabataba’i University. Cases were also brought against four students, including Hasti. Her case, involving charges including participation in protest gatherings and opposition to the death penalty, was tried in July 2023 by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Iman Afshari. Hasti was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment for “propaganda against the system”.
Branch 36 of the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict. Following her summons to Branch 1 of the Enforcement of Judgments Office of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office, she was transferred to Evin Prison on 6 April 2024. Hasti was released from Evin Prison on 4 August 2024 while holding a photograph of Pakhshan Azizi, a female Kurdish political prisoner on death row.

Hasti was arrested on 26 April 2025 after appearing before the Security Prosecutor’s Office to be formally notified of the charges. She was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison due to a delay in posting bail and was released the next day.  Several months later, in an in absentia ruling, she was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, a monetary fine, and a two-year ban on leaving Iran and on membership in political and social groups.

On 12 December 2025, Hasti was rearrested while attending the seventh-day memorial ceremony for Khosrow Alikordi (see page 12). She was held incommunicado in solitary confinement until she was released on bail on 23 January 2026.
